Plant large areas of potatoes quickly and accurately with the Power Potato Planter.
This planter, which is pulled behind the BCS two-wheeled tractor, opens a furrow, precisely plants potatoes with equal spacing, covers the furrow, and then hills soil over the furrow.
The furrow depth, potato spacing, and hilling depth are adjustable.
In addition to potatoes, the planter can be used to plant bulbs or other types of tubers.
Description
In a single pass with the Power Potato Planter, you can plant potatoes, bulbs, or tubers.
The planter is a ground-driven implement that you tow behind your BCS tractor.
Place up to 110 pounds of seed potatoes or tubers into the planter’s hopper. As you drive along, the planter’s furrow plow opens up a furrow in the soil. Meanwhile, a chain conveyor system takes individual potatoes from the hopper and drops them into the bottom of the furrow, precisely spaced. You can adjust the spacing between potatoes to one of four settings (10-inch, 12-inch, 14-inch, or 16-inch). Trailing discs close up the furrow and hill soil over the potatoes. In addition to the spacing, both the furrow depth and the depth of hilled soil are adjustable.
The conveyor system that moves potatoes or tubers from the hopper into the furrow uses cups fastened to a chain. Each cup holds one potato. The unit comes with standard cups, which accommodate potatoes from 1.2 to 2 inches in diameter. It also includes reducer cups, enabling you to plant potatoes that are smaller than 1.2 inches.
The Potato Planter is manufactured by Spedo, an Italian company that specializes in potato planting, ridging, and harvesting equipment. Spedo makes a companion product, the Power Potato Digger, which can greatly speed up harvesting of potatoes when compared to digging by hand.
